OUR INVESTORS
We partnered with investors who really get our mission to help simplify the seafood supply chain. They may not be out there shucking their own oysters, but they deeply believe in the mission we're on.BLUETRACE STORY
2018 - Founding team is formed
Chip briefly entertains the dream of oyster farming in Maine when visiting a local farm. While he doesn't take the plunge, he is fascinated by the practices of running a one, and dives head first into the world of oyster framing. He recruits some former co-workers and the founding team is formed: Chip, Cat, Andy, and Drew -each bringing some connection to seaside working communities and a desire to help.
2018 - OysterTracker Launches
The team launches the company as OysterTracker and with it, its first "Farm Manager" app. The app helps aquaculture farms manage their day to day activities (flipping bags, tumbling, harvesting) and improve the amount and quality of the oysters they sell.
2018 - MassChallenge Finalist
The OysterTracker team joins the MassChallenge startup accelerator to speed up development, start to raise funds, and give the company a boost to getting to market. The team was a MassChallenge finalist.2019 - Angel Round
Some good friends saw the vision and backed us to help make that vision a reality.2020 - OysterTracker Becomes BlueTrace
Spending so much time developing OysterTracker with customers allows the team to see a problem (and an opportunity) bigger than just oysters. The entire seafood industry struggles with traceability, compliance, inventory management, and just the day to day work of running a fast-paced growing business with quickly depreciating assets.
OysterTracker evolves to become BlueTrace, and the team focuses entirely on its tagging and labeling product while hiring the first full time employee.
2021 - 1st Distributor
We land our first distributor client and really start digging into the entire seafood supply chain. The team dives into how to seamlessly transfer data between trading partners.
2021 - SBIR Grant from NOAA
The BlueTrace team won a phase 1 and phase 2 SBIR grant from NOAA to build out our Tide to Table Traceability System.2022 - 1st Non-Shellfish Customer
BlueTrace expands from handling only shellfish to all seafood: Fish, shrimp, lobster, crabs, and kelp.
2023 - Seed Funding Round
First major investment enables the company to grow and bring on more full time members.2024 - Expanding to Inventory Management
Expansion into seafood inventory management for small and medium sized broadline/specialty distributors and producers.
